Abstract

402,235. Machinery guards ; locking levers. FURNIVAL, F. S., and FURNIVAL, H., Reddish Iron Works, Reddish, Lancashire. Oct. 28, 1932, No. 30238. [Classes 80 (iii) and 80 (iv).] Guillotine paper or fabric-cutting machines are fitted with vertically-sliding guard strips D between the clamping bar C and knife B, a vertically-movable rod E by which the guards are raised clear of the work, and a rock shaft e<2> and crank arms e<1> by which the rod E is raised before or on the up-stroke of the knife. The rod E may be controlled by a pedal F or by an adjustable stop on the knifeholder B<1> adapted to push against a lug on the shaft e'. Locking means are provided for the setting-on lever 5. These comprise a bellcrank latch 4 and a pivoted lever H fitted with a spring pin K, Fig. 8. A hole k is made in the frame to house the pin. When the pedal is depressed the lever H is moved into locking position, both hands of the operative being then required to start the machine. In a modified locking mechanism, the lever H is moved to engage the lever 5 by gravity or a spring. In this case one hand is used to remove the lever H and the other to disengage the latch 4.
