Abstract
470,413. Etching. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JEFFKINS, A. C. Feb. 14, 1936, No. 4532. [Class 100 (ii)] In a process for the satin etching of glass, an etching-solution is used comprising ammonia, at least 5 per cent of a silicofluoride, and sufficient acid to dissolve the silicofluoride According to examples, solutions are used comprising hydrofluoric acid, ammonium, sodium, or potassium silicofluoride, ammonium bifluoride, and water. The surface to be etched, e.g. an electric lamp bulb, is first cleaned with a dilute acid such as hydrochloric, and the etching-solution is then applied, as by spraying, at a temperature of approximately 50‹ C.
