Abstract

Double fluorides of niobium and/or tantalum with potassium are precipitated from ketonic solutions of niobium and/or tantalum fluorides or chlorides, containing respectively hydrofluoric or hydrochloric acids, in the presence of fluoride ions, by the addition of at least one potassium salt (i.e. fluoride or chloride), preferably potassium bifluoride, the salt being necessarily a fluoride if the solution does not already contain fluoride ions. The addition is preferably made in the solid form. A small amount of water, not exceeding 3%, may be added to accelerate precipitation. Specification 830,659 is referred to.
