Abstract

470,099. Liquid-pressure engines. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and HEPPELL, W. A. Jan. 1, 1936, No. 66. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXV] Comprises a screw-and-nut driving-gear for fluid-pressure reciprocating-piston apparatus for operating sliding doors &c. A compressedair operated piston 2 slides in a cylinder 1 and carries an auxiliary cylinder 6 which slides through a sealing-gasket 5 in the end cover 3. The cylinder 6 is internally screwed for onethird of its length, and engages a central screwed shaft 12. The end of the cylinder 6 is connected by a pin 8 to rollers which engage slots 9. The shaft 12 extends through sealing- means 17 in the cylinder cover 15, and is mounted in ball-bearings 16 therein and in an external bearing 19, and carries a gear wheel 18 to transmit the drive. Air is supplied by ports 21, 22 to the ends of the cylinders. The pitch of the thread is such that the operation is reversible, so that the cylinder may, upon rotation of the wheel 18 by hand be moved for operating a sliding-door which in an emergency must be opened manually.
