Abstract

467,699. Actuating valves. HINDS, G. A. May 13, 1936, No. 13517. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXVII] Alternate opposite movements of an actuated member are effected by a repetition of similar movements of an actuating lever. The invention is applicable in particular, to the actuation of switches and valves. As applied to the valve of a horticultural sprayer, a main lever a is pivoted on a pin b carried by a tubular part of the structure c and is loaded by a spring d. A subsidiary lever pivoted on the same pin b has two arms g, and lies inside the channelsection lever a. The arm g bears against the spindle i of the valve j to be actuated which is loaded by a spring k. A retaining device is provided in the form of an arm n pivoted at n<1> and carrying slidable spring-loaded abutments o bearing against the part m. During forward movement of the main lever a, the subsidiary lever is moved forward so that its arm g engages the valve stem i and opens the valve. At the same time a recess t in arm f comes under a pin r in arm n whereby the subsidiary lever is held with the valve open. Fig. 2. On the return movement of lever a, a spring loaded trigger v slips past the upper end of retaining arm n but, on the next forward movement of lever a, this trigger engages the arm n and, in forcing it forward, releases the subsidiary lever arm f, and the valve j moves to its closed position under spring action. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which the holding and releasing means comprises a toggle linkage.
