Abstract

473,232. Vacuum cleaners. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. March 4, 1937, No. 6494. Convention date, March 21, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] A nozzle for vacuum cleaners has nozzle elements such as a brush or an auxiliary nozzle which can be brought into and out of action by a switch member movable longitudinally of the nozzle body by a blow or pressure, the switch and nozzle remaining set until displaced in the opposite direction by a corresponding blow or pressure. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the flap valve 22 controlling an auxiliary nozzle opening 19 has a pin-andslot connection with a longitudinal bar 25 which terminates in buffer pieces 26 at the ends of the nozzle body. Longitudinal movement of the rod by pressure &c. on the buffers causes angular movement of the valve 22 to open or close the auxiliary nozzle. A spring ensures that the switch moves into its terminal positions. In a modification, the nozzle openings are controlled by a hit-andmiss valve. In another form, the nozzle body 41, Fig. 12, serves as the actuating element and the connecting-socket 42 as the movable regulating member. The latter carries a tubular slide member 43 working in a recess in the nozzle body so as to be displaceable peripherally and also in an axial direction. The nozzle body and the slide member are provided with openings 46, 47, 48 of different size.
