Abstract

377,043. Water - waste - preventers. SHANKS & CO., Ltd. and SHANKS, R. J., Tubal Works, Barrhead, Renfrewshire. Oct. 31, 1931, No. 30197. [Class 26.] Flushing cistern valves comprise a valve seating 2, a valve disc 9 having a suction face 91 co-operating therewith, and a suction member 6 normally out of engagement with the valve disc 9 but movable under manual control so as to be caused to adhere thereto, and moveable away from the seating 2 together with the adhering valve disc so as to open the valve, leakage being provided so that after a predetermined time the suction member and valve disc separate. A spring 8 is provided between a shoulder 7 on a rod 5 carried by the suction member 6, and a shoulder 4 integral with the valve structure, so that the movement of the suction member 6 into engagement with the valve disc 9 is in opposition to the spring, which then serves, on release of the manual means to move the suction member and valve disc away from the seating 2. The shoulder 4 is formed on the upper end of a tubular column 3 provided on a cage 1 surmounting the seating 2, the rod 5 being reciprocable within the column 3. A spindle 10 extends upwardly from the valve disc 9 and is slidingly accommodated in a guide socket 11 in the rod 5. Incorporated in the upper end of the rod 5 is a crosshead 12 which is connected by links 13 to the effort end of a bifurcated lever 14 fulcrummed on the bracket forming the shoulder 4. The load end of the lever 14 is connected bv a link 15 to the usual lever 16, which may be operated directly by hand, or by means of a metallic knob or finger operated lever with appropriate connections.
