598,884. Liquid-pressure engines. BOOTH, M.B., and BOOTH, E. Sept. 20, 1945, No. 13150/46. Divided out of 598,833. [Class 69 (ii)] A double-acting valve means for a hydraulic mechanism includes a control valve 29 and a main valve 30 having a movable element 47 which can be moved to a neutral position by means of members 50 at its ends to both of which liquid pressure is applied by the control valve when its movable element 26 is moved to its neutral position, whereas when the movable element of the control valve is moved to its two extreme positions the liquid pressure is applied to move the movable element of the main valve to uncover ports by which the liquid pressure is applied to the hydraulic mechanism 17 to actuate it in the selected direction. The invention is described as applied to the power press described in Specification 598,833. The movable element 26 of the control valve is automatically operated through a quick-throw mechanism whose spring- loaded lever 79 is actuated by a rod 71 sliding in supports 72, 72 on the press frame. The rod is moved by an arm 76 fast with the plunger rod 18 coming into contact with the abutments 73, 74. A spring-pressed catch is provided to hold the movable element 26 in its neutral position whilst the lever 79 is being thrown over. Means are provided for adjusting the press stroke. Specification 582,875, [Group XXII], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
