Abstract

614,318. Hydraulic presses. PROMAY CORPORATION. July 9, 1945, No. 17435. Convention date, July 1, 1944. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group V] The press head 11 is raised and lowered by a toggle 14, 17, which is expanded and retracted by a fluid-pressure-operated piston 22. The piston-rod 21 is pivotally connected to the knee 15 of the toggle, and the cylinder 19 is pivoted at 20 on the press frame. Fluid is supplied to the cylinder through a valve 24 controlled by two solenoids energized by the closing of switches 29, 30 by lever 36 and cam 35 respectively. Lever 36 is controlled by cam 38. Cams 35, 38 are carried by a slide 31 moved vertically by linkage 32, 33, 34 from the toggle link 14. Operation. When piston 22 is to the left, the head 11 is up and the control mechanism is disposed as shown in Fig. 5. To depress the head, treadle 41 is depressed, rocking lever 36 counterclockwise about pivot 37, closing switch 29 and energizing one solenoid to operate valve 24 to force piston 22 to the right. As the head 11 descends, slide 37 rises and cam 38 restores lever 36 to its former condition. As the head reaches its lowermost position, cam 35 closes switch 30 to energize the other solenoid and raise the head. If the treadle has been released, a spring 46 restores the position and the press stops after one down-and-up movement of the head. If the treadle is kept depressed, the press continues working automatically. A socket member 47 rigidly attached to one arm 14 receives a rod 48 for manual operation of the press for adjusting purposes.
