Abstract

761,502. Shearing. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. Aug. 13, 1954 [Sept. 30, 1953], No. 23546/54. Class 83 (4). The inclination of the movable blade of a guillotine is automatically variable in accordance with the thickness of the work. One end of the movable blade 12 is mounted on a pivot 11 carried by a beam 7 slidable vertically in the main frame 1 and the other end is connected to a piston 13 in a cylinder 14 rotatably mounted on the beam 7. When the holddown 3 carrying work-engaging studs 6 is moved down to engage the work 2 by hydraulic cylinders 4, 5, a stop on the hold-down 3 rotates a lever 21 against the action of a spring by an amount dependent on the thickness of the work 2. Disengagement of the lever 21 from a control switch 22 on the movable blade 12 opens a valve 26 to cause piston 13 to lessen the inclination of the movable blade until the lever 21 operates the switch 22 to close the valve 26. The cutting stroke is effected by the hydraulic cylinders 10 and the beam 7 and blade 12 move together until stopped by operation of a switch 25 by a projection 12b on the blade 12. The hold-down 3 near the end of its upward movement actuates a switch 23 which results in the raising of piston 13, whereupon the movable blade actuates a switch 24 to cause the beam 7 to be lifted to it initial position.
