Abstract
660,595. Power hammers. ROUCKA, E. Oct. 4, 1948 [Oct. 4, 1947], No. 25831/48. Class 83 (iv). A method of regulating the blow of a spring hammer, the actuating mechanism of which contains a rocking lever 5 coupled to the drive and to the tup at two connecting points B, A, Fig. 1, is characterized by the feature that regulation is effected by variable limitation of the oscillation of a third supporting point 7. The beam fulcrum 7 is supported by a piston rod 9 carrying a piston 10, the cylinder spaces above and below said piston being connected through an adjustable throttle 14. In the closed throttle position, piston 10 is immovable and the beam rocks about the fulcrum 7, the tup 6 having its maximum stroke. With the throttle fully open, the piston moves freely and since the tup is relatively heavy, the beam oscillates about the tup-end A as fulcrum, the tup remaining substantially stationary. In a modification, Fig. 2, the beam pin is supported by a piston and rod 17, 16, the cylinder 18 being controlled by slide valves 20, 38 in communication with a fluid container through channels 27, 39 and non-return valves 25, 26. The slide valves carry racks 28, 37, engaging with wheels 29, 35, coaxial with wheels 30, 34 engaging racks 32, 33 rigidly connected to the piston rod 16. The wheels 29, 30 and 35, 34 are carried on displaceable members 31, 36 respectively. In operation, if the valve 20 be moved downwards by means of the control member 31 the piston and rod may move downwards. Simultaneously the valves 20 and 38 will rise until the valve 20 reaches its neutral position, when downward movement of the piston is stopped because the liquid beneath it has no outlet. Upward movement is possible because the fluid above the piston may escape through the now open channel 40. The piston 17 therefor oscillates within limiting positions determined by the positions of the control parts 31, 36. If these are coupled by a lever pivoted at a point midway between its ends so that the parts 31, 36 are moved equidistantly in opposite directions the stroke of the piston will be varied but the neutral position is unaltered if the pivotal point is not moved. The pivotal point may however be adjustable in the same direction as that of the adjustment of the control parts, it then being possible to vary the neutral position of the piston to suit work of different thicknesses.
