[Class 100 (ii).] In a stereotype casting-machine of the type in which the mould is constituted by a core and a back reciprocable to closed and open position, the back is power-operated, and the power is shut off automatically at each end of the movement of the back. The back B of the mould is movable to and from the core C by means of a pair of toggles actuated by a shaft 4 rotated from a motor 1 by worm gearing 2, 3. The shaft 4 carries arms on which are mounted pins 9, 10 adapted to move the handle 7 of a switch 8 controlling the movements of the motor. The handle 7 is moved manually to set the motor in operation to close the mould, and when the closing movement is completed the pin 9 engages the handle 7 and opens the switch. To open the mould, the handle 7 is moved in the opposite direction to reverse the motor, and when the back is fully withdrawn the pin 10 opens the switch. The piston of the metal-supply device is under similar control. When the mould is closed, a handle 21 is moved to close the switch of a motor 12, which is connected through worm gearing 13, 14 and lever 15 to the piston-rod 16. When the piston is raised, a pin 9a on the lever 15 engages and moves the switch over to reverse position. The piston is thus returned to its original position, when the switch is moved into neutral position by a pin 10a.
