Abstract
489,417. Aircraft catapults. DEUTSCHE WERKE KIEL AKT.-GES., and HOLLMANN, E. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 330. [Class 4] Control means for aircraft catapults includes a piston and cylinder operated by a pressure medium and a starting lever a controlling the flow of the medium to the piston, the lever being automatically moved into its starting position after such movement has first been initiated by hand. As shown, a valve i is operable against a spring i<1> to admit pressure medium to a cylinder h to actuate a piston to obtain the catapulting action. The valve i carries a piston k. Movement of the hand-lever a moves, through a rod b, a cam c to actuate a valve d against the action of a spring d<1> and admit pressure medium, via a pipe f<1>, to a pipe f<3>. A pipe f<4> branches from the pipe f<3>. Pressure is thus simultaneously applied above the piston k to operate the valve i and above a piston r connected to the rod b to force the lever a to the fully operated position. A valve n is interposed in the pipe f<3> and is operable, against a spring n<1>, by the catapult towards the end of the action to connect the pipe f<3> to exhaust and permit the valve i to close. The cylinder q is simultaneously connected to exhaust and the lever a may be returned to its normal position.. A pipe f<2> connects the cylinder h with the atmosphere through ports in the cylinder containing the valve d.
