Abstract
A welding-flux, particularly for use as a coating on a welding electrode, consists of a mixture of 63-77 per cent by weight of iron oxide and 37-23 per cent of china clay or felspar, together with a binder such as sodium silicate, gum arabic, or "silicon ester." The iron oxide may comprise ferrous and ferric oxides in any proportions. When used as a coating the flux is preferably applied by extrusion to an iron electrode which has been provided with a fibrous covering, e.g. of white asbestos.
