Abstract
466,683. Projectile fuzes. GIRARD, P. May 2, 1936, No. 12506. Convention date, May 3, 1935. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to clockwork fuzes in which the release of a firing-pin is controlled by a timing disc set in one direction before firing and rotated back during flight. According to the invention, two timing discs d, k are provided rotating in opposite directions at different relative speeds. As shown, one disc k is keyed to the shaft e of the clockwork, and the other disc d is formed with an internal toothed crown m and driven through a planet pinion c by a pinion h keyed to the shaft e. Notches i, j in the discs are normally in line with each other opposite a finger p on one arm of a lever f pivoted at o; and the other arm of the lever engages a notch q in the firing-pin r and below a flange u on a safety bolt g. When the clockwork is wound and set, the notches i, move in opposite directions at different speeds, the finger p is wedged away from these notches, and this causes the other arm of the lever f to release the flange u. On discharge, the bolt g sets back, leaving. the lever f free. At the appointed time, the notches i, j are returned by the clockwork into coincidence opposite the finger p, and the lever is swung round by a spring t to release the firing-pin.
