[Class 51 (i)] In furnaces with travelling grates, a series of longitudinal strips or plates 4 are arranged beneath the fuel hopper 3 so as to extend to or beyond the furnace side of the fire door 2 and to act as fuel supporting surfaces from the side edges of which fuel may be entrained by fuel passing rearwardly on the grate. The strips may be replaced by plates disposed between adjacent links and such plates may be hollow and cooled internally and may be perforated.
