465,476. Conductors. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 6, 1935, No. 30726. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1931. [Class 36] An enamelled, plated, or bare conductor has an insulating covering of non-fibrous cellulosic material which is cemented to the conductor by casein glue. The cellulosic material may consist of regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, or cellulose nitrate and may be applied to the conductor in the form of a tape comprising a plurality of woven threads. The conductor, when bare, may be passed through an acid bath, or annealed prior to the application of the glue and insulating covering. Apparatus for applying and cementing the insulating covering to a conductor comprises a drum 1 from which the conductor to be covered is drawn first through a tank 2 containing casein glue and then through a wrapping head 4 which winds a strip of the cellulosic material about the conductor. A wiping device 3 provided on the top of the tank 2 ensures that the conductor is provided with an even and continuous coating of casein glue before the strip winding is applied. The wrapping head may be provided with means for pressing the winding upon the conductor.
