Abstract

382,662. Insulating cables. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Strowger Works, Liverpool. July 30, 1931, No. 21782. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1930. [Class 36.] Conductors are insulated by winding a layer or layers of fibrous material such as cellulose acetate, artificial silk or rayon fibres which are then treated with a solvent such as acetone to unite the fibres into a homogeneous covering. Successive fibrous layers are wound in opposite directions and may be dyed for identification purposes. The conductor may be formed with an initial coating of enamel. In the embodiment, a wire 5 with enamel coating 6 has wrappings 7, 8, 9 of cellulosic material, each wrapping being treated in turn with acetone to dissolve the fibres partially and cement the layers into a smooth homogeneous covering.
