Abstract
464,918. Jointing tubes to plates. SEARLE, C. June 3, 1936, No. 25864/35. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] Supplementary headers 4 of groups of tubes 3 of a motor-vehicle &c. radiator are detachably connected to the main headers 1 by conduits 8, Fig. 1, having flanges bolted to the main and supplementary headers so that the groups may be removed by sliding without spacing the headers apart, the conduits having closure means, preferably rotary valves 10, for isolating the groups from the liquid circulation system. The bolt flanges may be slotted to facilitate the removal of the groups. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the conduit 21 is permanently connected to the supplementary header, and an apertured disc 22 allowing circulation in normal use is replaceable by a blanking-off disc 25, Fig. 6, for isolating the group. These discs have projecting tabs 26 for manipulation and are slotted to pass the bolts. The tubes may be formed as described in Specification 450,747, [Group XIII].
