Abstract

463,938. Wireless signalling. HONEYBALL, L. L. -K. July 4, 1935, No. 3858/37. Divided out of 462,459. [Class 40 (v)] A two-way wireless transmitter and receiver comprises an oscillating circuit formed by a loop aerial la, 1b; 2a, 2b a valve 6 and condensers 27, 42, modulating potentials being supplied to this circuit for transmission and quenching oscillations for giving super-regenerative reception. One branch of the loop aerial is connected to the anode of the valve 6, the H.T. supply being to the lower end of the branch through a telephone receiver P, or amplifier D. The grid of the valve 6 is connected to the other branch of the loop aerial and the connection from the lower end of the branch includes the secondary of the modulating transformer N. Included in the circuit from the lower ends of the loop is the superregenerative quenching circuit comprising inductances Q1, and Q2 and condensers C1, C2. It is stated that the super-regenerative quenching has little effect on the operation of the arrangement as a transmitter. Instead of having a modulating transformer N, a microphone M may be connected as shown in the place of an automatic biassing resistance: To enable telegraphy to be transmitted additional inductances T1, T2 are included in the quenching circuit and normally short-circuited by mechanically coupled keys K1, K2 ; when these are depressed the additional inductance put in circuit reduces the quenching frequency into the audio range to act as a modulating potential. The arrangement may be made to function as a re-transmitter by coupling the output of the amplifier D back to the modulating transformer N. In a modification, the modulating and receiving circuits are connected through a change-over switch to the aerial oscillator so that one is cut out while the other is operating. Specifications 294,946, [Class 40 (v)], 462,459, and 462,529 are referred to.
