[Class 89 (iii)] A machine for fixing pronged lock &c. elements to attache cases, &c., of the general character described in Specifications 396,726 and 462,676 and embodying tools g, g<1> as described in Specification 215,478, [Class 89 (iii)], is provided with an adjustable linkage, between the treadle i and the plunger-actuating lever h, adapted to swing past its maximum pressureapplying position. The plunger head e is held in raised position by a weight h<5> on the lever h, and receives its operating stroke from the treadle i. The latter is pivoted at i<2> and its arm i<5> is pivoted to a link j the upper end of which is forked and is pivoted to the lever h by a pin l, Fig. 3, having an eccentric portion l<2> engaging the lever. The pin is rotated, to effect adjustment of the linkage i<5>, j, by a handle l<1> having a spring-pressed locking pin m adapted to engage one of a series of notches l<5> in the link j. The linkage i<5>, j imparts maximum pressure to the tool g when it is straightened, as at the line q, and is adapted to swing past this line, as to the line r, to inform the operator, by reduction of pressure on the treadle, that clinching has been effected. The linkage is returned to inoperative position by a resilient stop s and/or by the springs in the tool g, and by the weight h5.
