Abstract

462,596. Moulding pies &c. COX, C. E. Sept. 9, 1935, No. 25013. [Class 87 (ii)] Pastry &c. articles, such as pork pies, arc shaped between two die or mould members on a bed, both members being raised from the bed after the moulding operation and separation thereof being then effected by the application of fluid pressure between them. The mould member 12 rests in a recess on the bed 10 while the die or plunger 13 is carried by a piston rod 14 slidable in a sleeve 15 and actuated by a hand lever 17. The upper end of the rod 14 carries a cup piston 25 working in a cylinder 24 so that on raising the plunger 13 the air in the cylinder 24 is compressed. The rod 14 is hollow and is provided with a valve 30 at its base which is opened by the valve rod 32 contacting with an adjustable stop 33, thus allowing the air in the cylinder 24 to force the mould 12 containing the moulded pie &c. off the end of the plunger 13. The die 13 has a down-turned lip to form the edge of the pie and its surface may be knurled or roughened. In a modification the raising of the die 13 may turn on a cock supplying compressed air to the die face. A lid cutting and trimming member may be substituted for the die 13.
