Moulding hollowware; moulds; pressing- dics.-Tea-pots &c. are formed from clay dust in halves and the halves are brought together and united by pressure dies. As shown, clay dust is pressed within a lower mould by an upper die g fitting within a shouldered portion of the mould. A lower ejecting plunger j is so dimensioned as to determine, when raised, the proper quantity of dust. The parts are shaped to form one half of the body h, rim h<1>, pout and handle. A transverse hemicylindrical die i is advanced by mechanism actuated by the upper die, against the action of a spring i<1>, to form the base. The die g is fitted with a spring-backed panel i' to ensure proper register of the dies. Left and right-hand die parts are employed and the two halves, after pressing, are brought together between press moulds k, Fig. 7, after moistening the edges with slip. Plungers l, m, engaging the rim h<1> and base h' respectively, sustain the article against pressure by the moulds which are formed with knife edges to ensure a clean junction. The upper mould may be furnished with a spring-loaded panel k<1> to deliver the article on to the lower mould. A slip reservoir may surround the lower mould. The pressing of each half pot may be effected upon a rotary table.
