Pressing.-A process for the production of moulded glassware, consists in pressing each article in two or more stages, the shaping of the major part of an article being effected in a single-piece or equivalent mould, the subordinate part or parts being shaped in a separate segmental mould or moulds. The formation of a dish cover with a " sunk " knob is shown in the drawings. The greater part a, Fig. 1, of the cover is made by pressing the glass between a plunger c and a single-piece body mould d having a central inset d<1> which forms a projection n on the dish cover. When the glass has been pressed and the plunger c has been raised, the mould body d is lifted off its base, to which the part d<1> is fixed, and transferred to a new base k, Fig. 3, on which a hinged mould e<1> of the usual type is mounted. This mould is closed on the projection n of the dish cover, and a plunger is then lowered to press the projection n to the form of a knob b.
