Abstract

462,528. Dip-pipes &c. ABBISHAW, A. V., and PARKER, W. G. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30599. [Class 55 (ii)] Gases from coke ovens &c. are led from the ascension pipe 1 into a descending conduit 4 where they are cooled by passage through sheetlike sprays of cooling liquid projected across the whole cross-sectional area of the conduit by means of discs 5 disposed below jets 6 to which the cooling liquid is supplied under pressure. Each jet is provided with a hood 7 to prevent dirt deposition and fouling of the jets. A valve, such as a balanced butterfly valve 8, is arranged beneath the liquid screens to close the conduit to the flow of gases when desired, apertures 9 being provided therein to permit the discharge of liquid. A weir 14 may be arranged in the horizontal connecting pipe and covered inspection openings 10, 12 provided.
