Abstract
461,446. Starting and stopping compressors. WARD, Ltd., T. W., and CHAR- . LESWORTH, T. R. Oct. 9, 1935, No. 27838. [Class 8 (i)] An electrically driven compressor B is driven from a motor A through a rotary connection K and delivers air &c. to a receiver F through a non-return valve D by a pipe having a relief valve G held open at starting and closed by the connection K when the motor is working at full power. The driving connection K comprises a bush 10 keyed to the motor shaft and having a flange 14 with helically formed interrupted faces adapted to be engaged by axial projections on the drive pulley 11 which bears on the bush 10 and a sleeve 21 thereon. The pulley is pushed towards the flange by a spring 24 and the flange is thus made to engage a lever L to push the valve G open. The pulley is pushed back against the spring under the influence of transmitted torque. Between the sleeve 21 and the pulley an air space constituting a dashpot is formed.
