Abstract

A device for use in removing mistiness or bloom from polished surfaces, or for preventing its formation, comprises a cloth, pad, glove, or paper impregnated with an inorganic or organic salt of a sulphuric acid ester of a higher fatty alcohol containing twelve carbon atoms or more, with or without a hygroscopic agent such as glycerine, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or calcium chloride. When inorganic salts are used, wetting agents such as cyclohexanol or methyl cyclohexanol may be used in conjunction therewith. Mild alkalies, e.g. sodium carbonate, or salts such as sodium acetate or sodium phosphate may be added to the impregnating solution. In examples, cloth is impregnated with a solution comprising the sodium salt of the sulphuric acid ester of lauryl alcohol, cyclohexanol, glycerine and water, with or without a small amount of b -naphthol, or with a solution of the triethanolamine salt of the sulphuric acid ester of lauryl alcohol in ethyl alcohol or water, and paper is impregnated with a solution of the triethanolamine salt of the sulphuric acid ester of lauryl alcohol and glycerine in ethyl alcohol. The cloth &c. may be impregnated first with the hygroscopic agent, wholly or partially dried, and the salt then applied either in the form of a solution by dipping or spraying, or in the form of a powder by dusting.ALSO:A device for use in removing mistiness or bloom from polished surfaces, or for preventing its formation, comprises a cloth, pad, glove, or paper impregnated with an inorganic or organic salt of a sulphuric acid ester of a higher fatty alcohol containing twelve carbon atoms or more, with or without a hygroscopic agent such as glycerine, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or calcium chloride.
