460,517. Depilating hides &c. GRUNWALD, O., and WEISS, E. E. June 28, 1935, No. 18548. [Class 76] In depilating hides &c. known alkaline media for the removal of hair, e.g. lime-alkali-sulphide, are mixed with 10 to 25 per cent of a water miscible liquid prepared from alkali hydroxide, ethyl alcohol and a vegetable oil in quantity more than sufficient to saponify the alkali. In preparing the water miscible liquid one part of potash lye of 40‹ Be., À2 parts of ethyl alcohol and 4 parts of vegetable oil may be mixed. Such a preparation may be added to an aqueous mixture of sodium sulphide, unslaked lime and salt. Mixtures of lime with alkali sulphate and sulphite may also be used.
