Abstract
Electric cables are coated with a product of reaction of an aldehyde with a partially or completely hydrolyzed vinyl ester and, if desired, a coating of an organic enamel either above or below the polyvinyl acetal coating. The acetal coating may be put on by means of an enamel or alternatively a tape may be wound on. In an example a polyvinyl acetal made by treating a solution of polyvinyl acetate in glacial acetic acid with formalin and sulphuric acid is applied to a wire in solutions in dioxane, ethylene dichloride, chloroform, furfurol or a mixture of monochlorobenzene and ethyl alcohol. In the Specification as open to inspection, drawings show the coating of a wire with one, two or three coatings. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 378,608, 405,986, [both in Group III], 409,507, and 416,413.
