Abstract
387,007. Loaded cables.. SMITH, W. S.. Benchams, Newton Poppleford, Devon, and SMITH, E. W., Amber Way, Townsend Lane, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. July 29, 1931, No. 21707. [Class 36.] A multi-layer loading tape for a signalling cable is formed by rolling four superposed 4-mil. magnetic tapes down to an overall thickness of 4 mils. The tapes may be united prior to the rolling operation by thin films of adhesive, such as hot guttapercha or Chatterton's compound or solutions of rubber or cellulose esters. Two such multi-layer tapes may be wound on the cable conductor with opposite lays. In a modified construction a multi-layer tape is formed by rolling down a single wide tape which is folded along its length one or more times as shown in the Figure. Specification 307,087, [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.], is referred to.
