Abstract
1,105,260. Cables. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 31 Dec., 1965, No. 55360/65. Heading H1A. Inner conductor 2 and outer conductor 6 of a coaxial cable are formed by folding longitudinally thin metal, e.g. copper, tapes coated on both sides with adhesive so that they adhere to the polyolefin insulation layers 1 and 3, and 5 and 7 respectively. Helically wound polymer tape 4 provides the air spacing between the conductors. Layers 3, 5 and 7 may be applied by extrusion, the heat of extrusion promoting the bonding of the layers by means of the adhesive. The insulation may be a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated acid e.g. acrylic acid. The adhesive may be a copolymer of ethylene with 3 to 20% of an unsaturated acid, anhydride or ester. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a cable lacking insulating layers 3 and 5.
