Abstract

1380606 Coaxial cables PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1972 [22 April 1971 18109/72 Heading H1A [Also in Division H2] A coaxial cable is provided with dielectric layers 2, 3 which do not adhere to each other. The layer 2 is made sufficiently thin to allow the last turn on a wire-wrap terminal (Fig. 2), to include this layer, preventing short-circuiting with adjacent wires; layer 3 is thick enough to provide the desired cable impedance. The layers may be applied by extrusion; the inner layer is preferably a fluorine polymer or copolymer (polytetrafluoroethylene or fluorothylenepropylene), with a softening temperature higher than the outer coating which may be polyethylene. In an example, the inner conductor has a diameter of 0À25 mm., layer 2 has a thickness of 0À16 mm. and layer 3, 0À36 mm. The cable impedance is 75 ohms. The outer conductor 4 may be a copper braid and may include a copper foil. Insulation 5 may be of polyvinylchloride or polyethylene.
