Abstract

1278913 Extruded conductor insulation STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 23 March 1971 7543/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions H1 and H4] A cable transmission line, which may be used for radio communication with trains or other moving vehicles, comprises an outer conductive strip 13, Fig. 2, which is longitudinally formed to a substantially parabolic cross-section, and an inner conductor 11 which is positioned at the focus of the parabola and which is insulated from said outer conductor. The inner conductor may have a circular or rectangular cross-section, the longer sides of said rectangle being parallel to the axis of the parabola (Fig. 3, not shown). The inner conductor may be embedded in polyethylene insulation 12 by an extrusion process, said insulation being shaped to fit in the formed strip 13. A groove 18, Fig. 4, is provided at the apex into which a continuity wire 14 fits, to provide an electrical path in case of fracture of the strip 13. A polyethylene sheathing 15 is extruded over the assembled conductors, continuity wire, and insulation. A base portion 16 allows the cable transmission line to be mounted for example, in a railway tunnel.
