Abstract

Plastic insulating coatings are stripped from copper wires by passing the wires through a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids containing 1.5-70.5 per cent by volume of the latter, or through a more dilute mixture obtained by adding water in a proportion by volume not exceeding the volume of the acid mixture. The acid is preferably used at a temperature of 60-90 DEG C. Stoved coatings of phenol- or cresol-formaldehyde-modified polyvinyl formal are referred to. A blanket layer of paraffin-wax or silicone fluids may be used on the acid bath.
