708,755. Electrophoresis. LOEWE OPTA AKT.-GES. Oct. 25, 1951 [Oct. 28, 1950], No. 24915/51. Class 41. [Also in Group XI] In a method of producing insulating layers on a heating spiral for radio and cathode ray tubes, the article is first, coated electrophoretically with a layer containing no binding agent, and then with a layer containing a binding agent, the layer comprising an oxide of aluminium, magnesium or beryllium. This may be done by treating the spiral electrophoretically in a bath containing the oxide, collodion in an organic solvent such as amyl acetate, acetone, or isopropyl alcohol, and a small amount of a solution of aluminium nitrate in methanol. The spiral is used first as cathode to form the first layer without collodion, subsequently the spiral being used as anode, whereby the second layer containing collodion is formed.
