460,085. Vehicle wheel axles. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKTIESELSKABET. Sept. 23, 1936, No. 25896. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1935. [Class 108 (ii)] In gun carriages the stub axles with the wheels are secured to and released from the carriage by means of a member having means which co-operates either with the fixed part of the carriage or with the wheel to secure the wheel or release it from the carriage respectively. A stub axle 4 is provided with a conical journal 3 to take into a boss 2 on the carriage 1 and is adapted to receive the hub 7 of the wheel 6 between a collar 8 and a screwed cap 9. As shown, the stub axle 4 is held in position by a screwed member 15 having a flange 16 bearing against the collar 8. The member 15 is provided with a lug 22 to which is pivoted at 21 a pawl 17 having arms 18, 19 adapted respectively to engage teeth 20, 25 on the carriage boss 3 and hub 7. As shown, the stub axle 4 is locked in position and to release it the pawl 17 is rotated until the arm 19 engages the teeth 25 when rotation of the wheel will unscrew the member 15 and release the wheel. A spring plunger 35 is adapted to enter one of the notches 36 to fix the pawl in either one of its operative positions.
