[Class 38 (v)] In an explosion pot switch of the side-blast type having at least two breaks in series, the time between contact separation and the instant when the side outlet is uncovered for one break is different from the corresponding time for another break. In the construction shown, the fixed contacts 3 are housed in an explosion pot comprising a bell-shaped member 2 of, for example, non-magnetic steel, to which is clamped a structure having a continuous side outlet or, as shown, an outlet comprising nozzle-shaped passages 5 formed by cutting away insulating plates 4 which alternate with uncut plates 14. The movable contacts 9, 10 are a close fit in the lower closures 13 and are of rectangular section, opposite sides of which are engaged by the contact-members 17, 18 forced inwardly by springs 19. The pot on the left is for interrupting heavy currents, whereas that on the right, having the member 1 and the plates 4, 14 transposed, is for light currents. The movable contacts 9, 10 may be adjustable so that one separates from its co-operating contact before the other. The Specification refers also to parallel connections of explosion pots. The Provisional Specification refers to different locations of the contacts in the explosion pots in order to obtain the different separations.
