Abstract
459,041. Oscillographs. WATT, R. A. W., National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex. March 26, 1935, No. 9314. [Class 37] The electron content of a cathode-ray is varied according to its speed of deflection by means of a thermionic valve 9 to the grid of which the deflecting voltage 5 is applied. A voltage proportional to the time differential of the voltage 5 is developed across an inductance 11 in the anode circuit having an impedance low compound with the internal impedance of the valve 9 at the frequencies concerned, and is applied through a secondary 12 to the modulating cylinder 3. The arrangement may be applied to the circuit described in Specification 444,173, the effect of a graduated aperture in a collector electrode being referred to. The arrangement may also be used to maintain the curve on an oscillograph screen of even brightness regardless of the speed at which the ray is deflected. The Provisional Specification describes also modulating the ray according to any function of the deflecting voltage. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 413,401, [Group XL].
