Abstract

A fabric is rendered crease-resisting by treatment with a complex of the soluble salts of boric and salicylic acids, preferably the ammonium salts. Other suitable salts are those of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The requisite amount of boric and salicylic acids for neutralizing may be dissolved in aqueous ammonia and the solution used direct, or the solution may be evaporated to dryness and the residue redissolved when required. The fabric after immersion, is dried and preferably heated for a few minutes to 80--100 DEG C. Alcohol or acetone may be added to the bath to increase the rate of drying; a hardening agent such as formaldehyde or hexamethylamine may also be added. Examples of suitable solutions are: (1) 4 parts by weight of ammonium salicylate and 2 of ammonium borate are added to 20--25 parts of water; (2) 10 volumes of a 40 per cent aqueous solution of ammonium salicylate are mixed with 20 volumes of a 10 per cent aqueous solution of ammonium borate; the solution may be used direct, or evaporated to dryness and the product redissolved when required.
