Abstract
458,936. Boat raising and lowering gear. THORNYCROFT & CO., Ltd., J. I., and THORNYCROFT, Sm J. E., Thornycroft House, Smith Square, Westminster. July 29, 1935, No. 21502. [Class 115] [See also Group XXX] In a sling, more especially for lowering boats and the like, of the kind in which three flexible connecting-members engage members in alignment on the boat, the central connecting-member is connected separately to the two outer connecting-members which are independent of each other. Fig. 1 shows the two end members 3, 4 passing round sheaves 5 on the lifting- shackle 7 to a ring 2 to which the central member 1 also is connected. Fig. 2 shows the lifting-shackle fitted with pivoted members 11 connected to the outer members 3, 4 at one end and to the bifurcated central member at the other end. Stops prevent excessive tilting of the members 11 and a turnbuckle 13 on the central member allows their initial angle of tilt to be adjusted. Fore-and-aft cross-members 16 carried by the central member may also be used to steady the boat.
