Abstract

A composition for sealing the tube of pneumatic tyres is prepared by mixing soaps of lead, zinc or aluminium in colloidal solution in thickened saponifiable oils emulsified with water with suitable fillers. Examples of suitable oils are linseed, colza and hemp seed oil. They may be thickened by heat polymerization, injection of air or treatment with sulphur chloride. In an example, 70 parts of aluminium, lead or zinc soap are dissolved in 30 parts of thickened saponifiable oil and the solution is emulsified in 600 parts of water by the aid of an emulsifier e.g. gum tragacanth, dextrin, casein or animal glue. To this are added 70 parts of white lead or zinc white, 30 parts of bolus, precipitated chalk or slate meal, 20 parts of ground chalk and 100 parts of ground vegetable seed.
