Abstract

458,301. Clamps. TRIER, V. A., 38, Felsham Road, Putney, London. May 6, 1936, No. 12764. [Class 61 (ii)] A carpenters' bench clamp comprises a U-shaped frame A secured to a bench and provided with an end stop B, a jaw C adjustably secured by slots and screws C<2>, C<3> to one side of the frame, a movable jaw F engaging a guide on the other side of the frame so as to be movable in a direction at right angles to the fixed jaw and a cam lever J for actuating the movable jaw mounted on a pivot E. The movable jaw F is guided by means of a slot F<2> therein engaging the pivot E, which also fixes a member G having an edge G<1> bent over the edge of the frame A to hold it steady, the member G having a bent up tongue G<2> engaging the slot F<2> to prevent rocking of the movable jaw about the pivot. A spring K engages the cam lever J to urge the movable jaw into clamping position and an inturned flange on the cam engages a pin F<3> on the movable jaw for retracting it. The jaw edges F<1>, C<1> are faced with vulcanized fabric, brake lining material &c. to increase the grip and prevent damage to the work X.
