[Class 44] [Also in Group XXIII] A support 10 for holding a shoe during cleaning comprises a sole plate 11 with spaced ears 12 for engagement with the toe portion of the shoe, a heel plate 13 slidable lengthwise of the support 10 and having a part 131 for abutment with the back of the heel of the shoe, a rod 16 mounted to slide longitudinally on the support, a clutch plate 14 slidable with the heel plate so as to have'binding engagement with the rod 16 when in an oblique position, and a manual device for drawing the rod 16 forwardly to effect clamping of the shoe. The clutch plate 14 which is integral with the heel plate 13, is inclined and has a hole 15 whereby it fits slidably over the rod 16. The means for drawing the rod 16 forwardly consists of a lever 21 which is pivoted on the rod at the front of a wall 19 on the support and has cam faces 22 for coaction with corresponding faces 23 on the wall 19. When the lever 21 is rotated, the cam faces 22, 23 engage and cause the lever to act through a spring 24 to move the rod. forwardly ; a light spring 25a serves to return the rod 16 for the release of the shoe when the lever 21 is rotated to disengage the cam faces 22, 23. A tapered dovetail slot 32 is provided in the bottom face of the support for engagement with either of two corresponding dovetail projections 29, 31, Fig. 5, provided respectively on the end and bottom faces 28, 30 of a U-shaped screw clamp A. With this arrangement, the clamp may be screwed on either a vertical or horizontal member B, and the support may be mounted thereon in horizontal position by causing the slot 32 to engage the appropriate projection 29, 31. A projection 33 on the lever 21 is caused to overlie the face of the clamp A when a shoe is clamped on the support so as to prevent inadvertent removal of the support from the clamp.
