GUIDE FOR T-SQUARE Filed Feb. 3, 1934 125,11. 6 H (mm pw \NVENTOR 712 MBaerwa/o'e ATTORNEYS Patented Feb. 26, 1935 GUIDE FOR T-SQUARE Emil Baerwalde, Cleveland, Ohio Application February 3,
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved form of clamping attachment for a T-square for use in maintaining the T-square in proper position upon the drawing board.
I realize that there have already been patented numerous other devices for the same general purthe T-square in a convenient and quick'manner. Another object is to devise such an attachment that can be employed upon a conventional form of T-square without requiring any modification of either the T-square or the drawing board.
Other objects will be apparent from the following description and claim when considered to gether with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a T-square applied to a drawing board and equipped with one form of my attachment;
Fig. 2 is a view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view taken on line 33 of Fig.2;
Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view of a modified form of attachment;
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of another modification; and
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the modification shown in Fig. 5.
my attachment is applied laterally to the side edge portion of the T-square blade A by engag- Mounted in the upper portion 3 is the screw clamp 4 which is adapted to clamp the T-square blade A against the base portion 1, as soon as the attachment has been placed in position. It will be understood that my attachment will be applied to the T-square blade A at the proper point thereof so as to clamp the same against the side edge of the drawing board C after the T-square has been placed thereupon, with the head 13 of the T-square engaging the opposite edge of the drawing board. The means for 1934, Serial No. (Cl. 3380) clamping the drawing board will now be described.
The under side of the base portion 1, (Figs. 1, 2 and 3) is provided with two parallel cylinders 5 through which extend the plungers 6 and which .5 house the coil springs 7 therefor. Upon the to the T-square, it is placed in such position that the presser foot 8 will bear against the edge of 15 correspondingly smaller presser foot 8 The form of device indicated in Figs. 5 and 6 is the same as that in Fig. 4 except that a roller 25 10 is mounted in a bracket 11 on the end of the plunger instead of the flat presser foot. The roller 10 is intended to engage the edge of the drawing board in a manner similar to the flat presser foot 8 in the other form of device.
If so desired, any suitable material, such as fabric or the like, might be applied to those faces which clamp the blade of the T-square, as indicated in the drawing.
It will be observed that the entire main body 35 of my device is formed as a single part, as may be done by casting the same out of light metal.
Also, my device is entirely open at the front thereof and thus can be applied laterally to the side edge portion of the T-square blade. It can 0 also be removed with equal facility.
Furthermore, my attachment does not involve any modifications in the T-square or in the drawing board.
Finally, this device can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low price.
What I claim is:
A holding attachment for a T-square, comprising a bracket having a base portion adapted to engage the under side of the T-square, an intermediate portion extending upwardly from only the rear of said base portion, and an upper por-v tion extending from said intermediate portion and overlying said base portion, a clamping means extending through said upper portion and adapted to clamp the T-square against the base portion; and spring-pressed plunger means mounted upon the under side of said base portion and having means for engaging the side edge of the drawing board to which the T-square is applied, said parts being so constructed and arranged that the bracket is entirely open except for said intermediate portion so that the attachment can be applied laterally from the side thereof to the side edge portion of the T-square so as to receive the one edge of the T-square against the said intermediate portion of the attachment.
