457,865. Distant control of locks. DICK, H. P., Correnden, Tonbridge, Kent. June 12, 1935, No. 16909. [Class 44] A door lock &c. controlled from a distance by power means comprises a member pivoted about a fixed axis and having a bolt secured thereto on one side of the pivot and operating means secured upon the opposite side of the pivot and disposed entirely upon that side of the pivot remote from the bolt to maintain the parts in static balance. A T-piece e carries two armatures f, f<1> attracted by the excitation of one or other of two electromagnets g, g<1> to move a bolt d out of or into engagement with a staple b. A pivoted gravity catch i which normally blocks the bolt d has an armature i<1> attracted to release the catch when the current is switched on. The T-piece and parts carried by it are either statically balanced or biassed to the released position by a weight h or by a spring or by appropriate distribution of the weights of the parts. To enable the lock to be released by hand, a handle k is connected to a lever l coupled to two sliding rods m, m<1>. The rod m<1> carries a cam n engaging a part n<1> on the T-piece e and prevents the rod from moving until the rod m has moved the gravity catch i. A spring o returns the rod m to normal position. Means may be provided for breaking the circuit when the door is open.
