Abstract
457,861. Speed governors. HESSELMAN MOTOR CORPORATION, Ltd., 56, Kingsway, London. June 4, 1935, No. 16260. Convention date, June 4, 1934. [Class 57] [See also Group XXVIII] A multi-cylinder fuel-injection pump in which each cylinder has a plunger 19 reciprocated by a member 9 engaging a cam 11. Suction and delivery valves 15, 17 are provided and delivery ceases when a groove 21 in the plunger registers with the suction port 22. The output of the pump is controlled by a spindle 27 recessed to form an edge 29 which engages the plunger 19 and limits the suction stroke. The cams 11 are shaped so that for the major portion of the rotation of the cam, the plunger 19 is raised. This results in that at several instants during the rotation of the camshaft, all the plungers are raised from the stops 29 thus permitting the spindle 27 to be adjusted without overcoming any resistance. An arm 28 is connected to the spindle 27 and engages the rod 33 loaded by springs 34, 35 and subjected on the lower side to atmospheric pressure and on the upper side to the pressure in the induction pipe between the throttle and the engine. The arm 28 may be adjusted to reduce the output by a wire 42. The spindle 27 may be in sections so that each pump may be adjusted separately.
