Abstract
457,669. Spray carburetters. GLADWELL, A. W. D., Ampton Street Works, Gray's Inn Road, London. July 18, 1935. Nos. 20475 and 20476. [Class 7 (iii)] A spraying nozzle, mounted coaxially in a mixing chamber and fed with fuel through two submerged jets connected in parallel, is adapted to receive air through a slowrunning device which can either draw fuel from a well, fed by the two jets, at the base of the nozzle and deliver the usual small quantity of mixture to one or more holes in the side of the throttle chamber adjacent the throttle valve when closed or can allow air or mixture to pass in the opposite direction to the well to regulate and emulsify the fuel when the throttle is sufficiently opened to deplete the well of fuel. A float chamber k connected by a swivelling union to the carburetter body a supplies fuel through a passage l<1> to a submerged nozzle i<1> in a vertical pocket e<1> and through a passage l<3>, l<2> having several bends to a second submerged nozzle i<2> in a pocket e<2>. The nozzles supply a common passage j formed in a cross-member b in the body a which is inclined at 45‹ to the vertical and the cross-member b supports the pockets e<1>, e<2> and a central vertical pocket e containing a slow running nozzle x<1>. The base of this pocket forms a well e<3> feeding a main nozzle c having a heated central tube c<1>, as described in Specification 451,726. This nozzle is disposed axially in the chamber a and discharges into a Venturi m having displaceable bolts m<2> as described in Specification 450,495. A controlled quantity of air entering by ports d<2> at the top of a tube d<1> carrying the slow running nozzle x<1> passes during such running through ports d<4> and a passage f in the wall of the body to outlets g, g<1> adjacent the throttle valve. During normal running, fuel, which has stood around a ribbed portion d<1> of the tube d<11> nearly to the level of an additional air inlet x in the pocket e is withdrawn from the pocket and the well e<3> and aerating air flows in through the ports d<2> and inlet x assisted by some mixture drawn down the passage f. The body a is secured to a throttle chamber n having flanges n<1>, o at 45‹ to one another to adapt the carburetter for attachment to a vertical or horizontal flange.
