456,132. Discharge devices. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. July 16, 1936, No. 19788. Convention date, July 19,1935. [Class 39 (i)] A gas- or vapour-filled tube, e.g. a sodium lamp or a tube provided with mercury electrodes, is furnished with an automatic ignition device which, after repeated attempts to ignite the discharge, is disconnected by a fuse which has a high positive temperature coefficient of resistance. A sodium lamp 1 is connected in series with a choke coil 2 and is shunted by a fuse 6 which consists of an iron wire arranged in a vessel filled with hydrogen or air. A switch 5 is opened when current flows in the choke to generate a high starting voltage.
