376,636. Conducting liquid switches. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) Dec. 17, 1931, No. 34986. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] A cut-out for high-tension circuits comprises terminals d<1>, d2 having electrodes f<1>, f<2> contained in an insulating tube c, preferably of glass, filled with an electrolyte such as a solution of copper sulphate. When an excessive current passes, the expansion of the liquid, or of the vapour formed therefrom, ruptures the tube allowing the electrolyte to flow away from the electrodes and thus break the circuit. An expansion chamber g is connected with the tube by a small orifice to allow for small temperature changes. An insulating tube h is placed round the cut-out to collect the broken tube and electrolyte.
