Abstract
434,713. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 27, 1935, No. 15427. Convention date, July 20, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] Relates to circuits for gas or vapour-filled discharge tubes with a branch circuit 12 in parallel with the discharge path so that, when an interrupter 13 is closed to start the discharge, incandescent electrodes 2, 3 or their heaters are connected to the supply 10 through the series choke-coil 11 of the tube to heat the electrodes 2, 3 prior to starting the discharge by opening the interrupter 13. The circuit is now arranged so that part 17 of the coil 11 can be connected through a switch 16 directly to the supply 10, the coil 11 acting as an autotransformer during the heating of the electrodes 2, 3. The part 18 of the coil 11 supplying the heating current may be of thicker wire than the part 17. The switches 13, 16 may be united to form a bipolar switch and may be opened automatically to start the discharge. A condenser may be connected in parallel to the tube 1 to facilitate the starting. Electrical data and tube dimensions are specified for a lamp filled with neon at 2 mm. pressure.
